Salem- Howard “Ike” N. Beilhart, age 92, of Salem, died on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Salem Regional Medical Center.
He was born on March 28, 1923 in Leetonia, a son of the late John and Laura Nold Beilhart.
Ike was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served on the USS Iowa during WWII. He worked as a press operator for the former Kaiser Refractory for 45 years and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia. He was a member of the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion, Leetonia; York Drexler Post #5532 VFW, Washingtonville; Columbiana County 40 & 8 #273; and had participated in the Honor Flight for WWII Veterans to Washington, D.C.
Ike enjoyed reading and was a Civil War and WWII history buff. He had a soft spot for dogs and loved spending time with his friends at the American Legion. Ike also enjoyed spending time with his family and always looked forward to the family vacation in Cape Hatteras, NC.
He is survived by his daughter, Wendy (Clarence “Butch”) Sternagle of Salem; two grandsons, Jeremy (Tiffany Lesko) Sternagle and Devin Sternagle; a great granddaughter, Chloe Sternagle; and a brother-in-law, Paul (Barbara) Baldridge of Columbus.
Ike was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Baldridge Beilhart; two sisters, Dorothy and Martha Beilhart and two brothers, James and John “Jack” Beilhart.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Salem Honor Guard following the service.
Burial will be at a later date at Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
Donations may be made to the brick fund at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Angels for Animals.
