Herbert C. Slagle

Leetonia - Herbert C. Slagle, 87, of Leetonia, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Essex of Salem.

He was born September 17, 1929 in Mosgrove, PA, the son of the late Herbert and Hazel Austin Slagle.

Herbert was a truck driver with Linde Gas where he drove three million miles without an accident and was also a member of the Teamsters. He was a member of the Columbiana Baptist Church and was very involved with his churches over the years.

His first wife, Dorothy Gearhart Slagle, whom he married January 21, 1950 preceded him in death on June 7, 1989 and his second wife, Doris Hunsberger Slagle, whom he married February 21, 1991 died July 31, 2011.

He is survived by a two daughters, Karen Slagle and Kimberly (Frank) Campbell, both of West Palm Beach, FL; a son, Carl (Cheryl) Slagle of Leetonia; two brothers, Robert Slagle of Pulaski, PA and Harold (Butch) Slagle of New Castle, PA; and three grandchildren, Timothy Campbell of West Palm Beach, FL, Benjamin Slagle of North Lima, and Kayla (Mark) Post of Salem.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Hankey and Ruth Eckman and two brothers, Charles (Bud) Slagle and Walter Slagle.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with Pastor Jeff Jamieson officiating. Burial will take place in Georgeville Cemetery, Smicksburg, PA. Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday.
