Herbert Donald Long

Leetonia - September 29, 2008 - Herbert Donald Long, 79, of 5303 St. Jacob's-Logtown Road, died Monday at his home.

Mr. Long was born August 10, 1929 in Moundsville, WV, a son of William and Blanche Virginia Ramsey Long and had lived in the Leetonia area most of his life.

He had been employed as an assembler for GM in Lordstown, prior to that working at Buckeye Coal Company. He had also served in the US Army and the US Navy.

Herbert was a member of Joe Williams Post #131 of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death on April 18, 2001, by his wife, the former, Patricia J. Simonds whom he married August 25, 1949.

He is survived by six daughters, Sharon (Robert) Morris of Elkton, Donita (Rick) Wells and Reba (Mark) Boso both of Lisbon, Lisa Mountz of Leetonia, Julianne Hiss of Austintown and Virginia (Kevin) Brown of Lisbon; three sons, Thomas Long of Leetonia, William (Linda) Long and Herbert Long, Jr. both of Lisbon; a sister Joanne Matthews of Columbiana; 28 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

A daughter, Trina Jones; a brother, Niles Long and two grandchildren, Belinda M. Long Burbick and Joshua A. Long also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the chapel at the Columbiana Cemetery with Mr. John Simonds officiating, with the burial to follow. Friends may call from 7-9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
