Salem, OH - February 19, 2008 -Helen E. Karlis, 79, of 1234 Franklin Ave. died at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday at her home.
Mrs. Karlis was born April 8, 1928 in Salem, the daughter of Clarence and Lela Wilkinson Hinerman and lived in this area all of her life.
Helen had been a secretary for Southeast Elementary School, Salem for 34 years.
She was a member of the Robbins United Methodist Church, Washingtonville.
She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Karlis whom she married February 4, 1951; two daughters, Mrs. Ernie (Kristine) Kozacek of Lakewood, CO and Mrs. Kirk (Kellee) Lowdermilk of Kensington; a son, Richard (Laura) Karlis of Highland Ranch, CO; two sisters Mrs. Shirley Warner of Washingtonville and Mrs. Alice Brain of Salem; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A daughter, Robin K. Pitts and a grandson, Matthew Pitts preceded her in death.
Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Robbins United Methodist Church, with Pastor Cheryl Vanatsky officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Salem.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
Memorial tributes may take the form of a donation to Hospice of the Valley or the Church Memorial Fund.
