Hazel Irene Welsh

Salem, OH-November 1, 2009-Hazel Irene Welsh, 67, of 863 Morris Ave., died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday at Essex I of Salem.

Mrs. Welsh was born September 24, 1942 in Beaver Falls, PA, a daughter of Harry Joseph and Maddie Ripley Cunning and had lived in the area since 1995 coming from New Waterford, OH.

Hazel was a homemaker and attended the Truth Baptist Church of Atwater, OH.

Her husband, Thomas Burton Welsh, Jr., whom she married March 14, 1958, died January 29, 1999.

She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Sue (Norris) Gosher of Salem and Heather (Michael) Downs of Leetonia; two sons, Thomas R. (Windy) Welsh, Sr. and William (Teresa) Welsh both of Salem; eight sisters, Donna Vallese of Beaver, PA, Mabel Chambers of Macon, GA, Isabelle Novak of Beaver Falls, PA, Florence Jacox of West Mayfield, PA, Carol Kotoff of Beaver Falls, PA, Shirley Fotia of Ellwood City, PA, Kathy Mattes of Sun City West, AZ and her twin sister, Anna May Kyle of Ellwood City, PA; five brothers, Richard Cunning of South Beaver, PA, Ralph Cunning of Beaver Falls, PA, Donald and Larry Cunning both of Florida; 13 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Burton Welsh; a brother, Harry Michael Cunning; a granddaughter, Michele Custer and a great granddaughter, Mattie Gamble.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Thomas R. Welsh, Sr. and Pastor Roy Teague officiating. Burial will follow in New Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
