Petersburg-Gilmer "Buck" Ball, 93, formerly of Petersburg, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at Masternick Memorial Health Care in New Middletown.
Mr. Ball was born May 29, 1920 in Fort Gay, WV, a son of Gilmer A. and Nona E. Darst Ball and had lived in this area most of his life.
Buck was a truck driver for the former Standard Oil Company for many years and then worked for the Coastal Tank Lines for 17 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Petersburg and the Teamster Retiree Club in Youngstown.
His wife, the former Ethel M. Kimble, whom he married September 12, 1941, died April 21, 2005.
He is survived by a daughter, Renee (Michael) Stewart of Cortland; a son, Terry (Carol) Ball of Petersburg; a sister, Helen Lynch of Scottsmoor, FL; six grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gilmer A. Ball; four sisters, Alma Martin, Alta Miller, Gladys Palo and Fern Smith; and a brother, Burke Ball.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Petersburg with Pastor Aimee Raymond officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Monday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Contributions in memory of Gilmer may be made to the Activity Department of Masternick Memorial Health Care.
