Leetonia - July 19, 2009 - Gertrude Nicotera, 88, of 1 Wood Street, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, of complications following a stroke.
Mrs. Nicotera was born May 25, 1921 in Mt. Washington, Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of Michael and Frieda Krolzik Krautner and had lived here most of her life.
She had been employed as a hairstylist for 15 years at Gertrude & Carmella's Beauty Shop. Prior to that she worked for the Dan Dee Chip Company for 8 years and from 1941-1945 as a welder of shell casings at Mullins Manufacturing, Salem.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Leetonia.
She is survived two daughters, Janet O'Keefe of Portola Valley, CA and Mrs. Steve (Carmella) Harmon of Sunnyvale, CA; a son, Angelo (Alberta) Nicotera, Jr. of Leetonia; three grandchildren, Mike (Jill) Nicotera of Toledo, Gina O'Keefe of Portola Valley, CA, and Kara (Abel) Parsad of Los Banos, CA; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death on February 13, 2007 by her husband, Angelo E. Nicotera, Sr., whom she married July 30, 1941; five sisters, Mary Longbottom, Emma Wiedenhof, Frieda Allen, Esther Stouffer and Ruth DeMeo; and a brother, Mike Krautner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas Eisweirth officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday where a Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m.
