Dumont, Iowa-October 26, 2008-Gertrude Mary Mahler, 83, formerly of Columbiana, died Saturday at the Madrid Home for the Aging in Madrid, Iowa.
She was born October 1, 1925, in Elton, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Marion and Clara (Arabie) Nugent.
Gertrude attended the Reeves School in Louisiana. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary both of Columbiana. Gertrude enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting and babysitting.
Her husband, Ed Mahler, whom she married on May 6 1944, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son Kenneth (Sue) Mahler of Ames, Iowa; two grandsons, Chris (Becky) Mahler and Evan (Carla) Mahler both of Hampton, Iowa; four great grandsons, Zarek Mahler, Rylund Mahler, Taylor Mahler, and Jacob Mahler all of Hampton, Iowa; two sisters, Helen Culp of Columbiana and Verna Tarver of LeBlanc, Louisiana.
Two brothers, Frank and Roland also preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, November 1st at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Columbiana Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Len Derico officiating, with the burial to follow.
