George Thomas "Tommy" McBride of Lisbon, Ohio passed away, surrounded by his loving family, Monday afternoon, November 14, 2011, at St. Elizabeth's Boardman Health Center. He died of heart failure due to complications of childhood diabetes.
He resided with his parents until this past February when he became a temporary resident of Caprice Health Care in North Lima. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 13, 1973, the son of Vicki Johnson McBride and the late Thomas McBride. He grew up in East Palestine and graduated in 1991 as part of the National Honor Society. He attended Youngstown State University for several years majoring in Engineering.
Besides his mother, Vicki, he is survived by his brother, Joe (Jennifer) of East Palestine and his much loved niece and nephew, Jade, and J.D. He will be sadly missed by all his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and his dog, Angel. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Johnson and paternal grandparents, George and Avanelle McBride; his uncle, Master Sgt. Mark Johnson, aunt, Patricia McBride, and cousin, Gregory McBride.
Tommy was active for many years in the martial arts, achieving the rank of 1st degree black belt in Karate. He won many, many trophies and awards, including PKC Ohio State Champion and runner-up Champion several years and also Eastern United States Champion. He was part of Smith's Eastern Ohio Karate Association and their traveling competition team. In later years he began refereeing semi-pro wrestling, traveling around the circuit with friends. He enjoyed reading, hunting, going to concerts, video games, and being with his extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with John Cresanto, Evangelist officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 5-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
