Leetonia – George E. “Dusty” Van Fossan, 87, of Leetonia, died at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at The Courtyard at Lexington in Salem.

Mr. Van Fossan was born August 28, 1927 in Lisbon, a son of the late George W. and Jessie M. Flowers Van Fossan and lived in the area all his life.

George had been employed as plant superintendent for 34 years at the former NRM Company of Leetonia, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ in Leetonia and the Leetonia Lodge #401 F.&A.M. where he was a Past Master and a 50 year member. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII.

His first wife, the former, Lois Jean Knavel whom he married April 21, 1951 died on April 7, 1995.

He is survived by his second wife, the former Janet Ray of Leetonia; a daughter, Rebecca (John Black) Less of Conover, NC; two sons, William “Bill” Van Fossan of Austin, TX and Robert Van Fossan of Columbiana; two step daughters, Marilyn (Melvin) Van Fossan of Leetonia and Marjorie Hedl of Greenville, SC; a step son, Charles (Sue) Hedl, Jr. of Leetonia; a sister, Verna (Donald) Stoffer of Columbiana; three brothers, Ralph A. Van Fossan of Casa Grande, AZ, Gerald L. (Nancy) Van Fossan of Leetonia and Melvin J. (Marilyn) Van Fossan of Leetonia; nine grandchildren, Angela Less, Gerald “Bud” Less, Jr., Margaret (Robert) Tyson, Ted Less, Courtney (Eric) Stegemoller, Autumn (Jill) Van Fossan, Jacob Van Fossan, Sara (Brian Felger) Van Fossan, and Benjamin Van Fossan; five step grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) Householder, Melissa Van Fossan, Ben Snow, Blaine Reiter, and Bryce Reiter; one great grandson, Conner Felger; two step grandchildren, Marah Householder and Alayna Householder; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, he was also preceded in death by a sister, June Montgomery and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rebecca Less.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Leetonia where the Salem Honor Guard will accord military honors. Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where Leetonia Lodge will hold Masonic Services at 9:00 p.m. on Friday.
