Leetonia – George T. Duko, 83, of Leetonia, died at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014 at his home.
George was born March 1, 1931 in Leetonia, a son of the late Andrew Joseph and Nellie Cecelia Eskay Duko and had lived in this area all of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Korean War. He had been employed as splicer and engineer’s assistant for the Ohio Bell Company for 42 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Leetonia.
He is survived by his wife, the former, Mary K. Long, whom he married May 23, 1953; a daughter, Lisa (Mick) Amburgey of Utica; two sons, George Duko, II of Tallmadge and Edward (Pamela) Duko of Lisbon; three sisters, Betty Bell of Salem, Helen Gallo of Leetonia and Mary Catherine Tortora of Northville, MI; two brothers, Edward (Sandra) Duko of Canfield and Lawrence (Renee) Duko of Leetonia; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Leetonia with Reverend Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia. The family has requested that any food offerings be delivered directly to St. Patrick's Parish Hall where a time of fellowship will follow after the Mass of Christian Burial.
