Geoff Parsly, age 49, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 20, 2004, after a courageous two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Geoff was born January 4, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but resided in Columbiana most of his life. The son of Jean Parsly of Columbiana and the late Edward (Andy) Parsly, he leaves his wife, Cindi (Kelly), two sons, Andrew (age 12) and Evan (age 7) and a sister, Susan Bailey of Edgewater, Maryland.
Geoff was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana, having served as an elder, deacon, choir member, Praise Team member, and youth group chaperone. Geoff was a 1973 graduate of Columbiana High School. He received his electrical engineering degree from Kent State University and continued his education at Youngstown State University. He retired from Appropriate Technologies of Cleveland in 2003. Geoff was honored to serve on Columbiana City Council from January to December of 2003. He was a member of the Salem Jubilee Chorus, an avid motorcycle enthusiast and bicyclist, and enjoyed all types of outdoor activities.
Geoff advocated for people with ALS through the National ALS Association in Washington, DC and participated in a medical research study at the Cleveland Clinic.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23 at First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana, with the Rev. Robert McCreight officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday, August 22, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, Northeast Chapter, Hospice of the Valley, or to the Geoff Parsly Family Fund at any Bank One location.
