Leetonia - November 29, 2004 - Gene B. Weikart, 73, of 305 Walnut Street, died at 10:21 a.m. Monday at the Salem Community Hospital of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Weikart was born February 4, 1931 in Washingtonville, a son of the late Loran B. and Mabel M. Barber Weikart and had lived in this area all of his life. He was a 1949 graduate of Leetonia High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He had been employed 25 years as maintenance supervisor at the former NRM Company in Columbiana. He then worked with the IDS Company and Royal Alliance Company as a financial planner for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He then owned and operated the Twin Springs Golf Course in Lisbon for six years. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of Salem. He was also a member of the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW of Washingtonville and Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion of Leetonia. His wife, the former Lena A. Dominic, whom he married September 12, 1955 died August 3, 1998. He is survived by a son, the Reverend G. David Weikart of Youngstown and a sister, Barbara Weikart Lutsch of Salt Springs, FL. Two brothers, John B. Weikart and Richard L. Weikart are also deceased. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
