Gary Lee Houck

Poland- Gary Lee Houck, age 76, of Poland, died on Friday, January 27, 2017 at his home.

He was born on June 18, 1940 in Salem, OH, a son of the late Lowell and Helen Bowen Houck.

Gary worked most of his life as a horseshoer, retiring in the 1980's. He later worked at National Refractories, Columbiana. He enjoyed both working with horses and showing Hackney ponies. He also enjoyed working in his blacksmith shop. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine L. Vaux Houck whom he married on September 13, 1986; a daughter, Kim (Jerry) Phillis of New Waterford; two sons, Tim (Loretta) Houck of Windsor, CO., and Ted (Kelly) Houck of Columbiana, and by two brothers, Larry (Judy) Houck of Poland and Jerry Houck of Poland. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by a daughter and son in-law, Christine and Dwain Graham, and by a sister in-law, JoAnn Houck.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.
