Youngstown-Gale R. "GR" Krugel, 85 of Youngstown, died at 12:10 pm Friday, March 6, 2015 at Vista Center At The Ridge, Mineral Ridge with his daughter Kathy holding his hand.
Mr. Krugel was born January 30, 1930 in Marysville, OH, a son of Henry G. and Mary E. Skelly Krugel and had lived in the Austintown and Youngstown area most of his life.
He worked for General Motors in Lordstown for many years retiring in 1992. He had also been a superintendent for Mill Creek Park, worked for Islay's, Standard Oil and Heckett Engineering.
He loved nature and was involved with the rose garden at Mill Creek Park. He also loved cars and car racing, his dog, Target and was devoted to his wife Betty, taking care of her until her death. GR served in the US Army during the Korean War.
His wife, the former Betty Jane Bortmas, whom he married September 2, 1951, died July 4, 2006.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (David Sr.) Pflugh of Boardman and Karen (Michael) Neese of Leetonia; a son, Robert K. Krugel of Youngstown; two brothers, James Krugel of Florida and Larry (Tammi) Krugel of Newark, OH; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter in law, Pamela Krugel and two brothers, Jerry and Dale Krugel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 11. 2015 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
