Columbiana - Frieda Mae Bevington, age 81, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully at her home with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

She was born on July 22, 1944, in Salem, a daughter of the late Orville and Dorthea Christman Chellis.

Frieda grew up working on her family farm and had a hard work ethic instilled in her at a very young age. She was a 1962 graduate of Crestview High School where she was also a cheerleader for her beloved Rebels. Frieda went on to carve out a 50+ year career working for McNeil NRM as an engineer assistant, retiring in 2022 at the age of 77. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Leetonia, and worked with the Columbina County Board of Elections as a part-time staff member and poll worker. In her younger years, Frieda was extremely active with the Leetonia Order of Eastern Star where she achieved the rank of Worthy Matron. She was an active woman who enjoyed working, keeping a clean house, completing puzzles and solving crossword puzzles. She liked watching game shows and cheering for her Pittsburgh Steelers, watching the PGA tournaments and listening to Elvis. Frieda was known for having a feisty personality that went perfect with her unfiltered sense of humor. Mostly, she will be remembered as a woman who loved her family and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great grandson. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Her husband, Charles L. Bevington, whom she married on May 2, 1975, preceded her in death on, April 5, 2003.

Frieda is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Barry) Miner and Rae Ann (Jeffrey) Stoy both of Columbiana; a stepdaughter, Susan (David Benoist) Harrison of Wyandotte, MI; a stepson, James Bevington of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Bryce (Katina) Miner, Madison (Julian) Wittman, Joshua (Alexis) Stoy, Jacob Stoy, and Alexandra Mae Stoy; three stepgrandchildren, Justin, Jessica, and Jennifer Douglas; a great grandson, Barrett Miner as well as a great grandchild on the way; four step-great grandchildren and her best friend and close companion, Bob McCormick of Columbiana.

She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Karen Bevington-Hollar; sister, Mary Louise Lynn, and her brother, Robert Chellis.
