East Palestine, OH-Fred H. Landsberger, 91, of East Palestine, died at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Salem Community Hospital.
Fred was born November 10, 1921, in Unity, a son of the late William F. and Edna J. Pike Landsberger.
He was a self-employed milk hauler for 38 years and had also worked for the former Herriott Trucking in service maintenance for 13 years. He had also worked at NRM Corporation. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council 1890, the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion and Edward L. McGuckin Post #4579 VFW. He had also served as a volunteer fireman on the former Unity Fire Department.
His wife, the former, Ruth I. Baun, whom he married June 19, 1948 died January 9, 1990.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Cooper of East Palestine and Helen Colwell of Distant, PA; three sons, Harry F. Landsberger of Darlington, PA, J. Dale Landsberger of Bessemer, PA and Edward A. Landsberger of Distant, PA; four sisters, Louise A. Yacullo of Columbiana, Virginia I. Artrip of Rogers, Margaret Stratton of Greer, SC, and Evelyn Bailey of East Palestine; two brothers, Edward J. Landsberger of Lisbon and Elvie Landsberger of New Springfield; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Penny J. Landsberger; one sister, Edna Knight; and three brothers, William C. Landsberger, Charles L. Landsberger, Frank Landsberger, and Albert H. Landsberger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, East Palestine with the Reverend Thomas Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Palestine where the Benjamin Firestone Post will accord military honors. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
