Eloise R. Seachrist

Rootstown - Eloise R. Seachrist, 88, of Rootstown, formerly of New Waterford, died Saturday morning, November 13, 2010 at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna.

Mrs. Seachrist was born November 19, 1921 in Columbiana, a daughter of the late Lester L. and Esther Barber Rapp. She was a graduate of Mt. Union College and received her Masters of Education from Westminster College.

She taught school at the New Waterford, Leetonia, and Crestview High Schools for 34 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of the Kent United Church of Christ and a former member of Grace Church in Columbiana and First United Church of Christ, Warren. While at Grace, she was a choir member, a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Board of Christian Education. She was also a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, the Retired Teachers of Columbiana, Trumbull, and Portage Counties, the Ohio Education Association, and the National Education Association. While at Crestview, she served as president and head negotiator of the Crestview Teachers' Association. Mrs. Seachrist had also served as a Cub Scout den mother and Camp Fire leader for several years.

Her husband, Glen W. Seachrist, whom she married August 25, 1946 died March 6, 1964.

She is survived by a son, Daniel W. Seachrist and his wife, Carol of Chillicothe; a daughter, Dr. Denise A. Seachrist and her husband, Charles P. Wentz of Rootstown; a sister, Twila Seachrist of Calcutta; five grandchildren, Keith P. (Olivia) Jones, Jr., Callie L. Seachrist, Patrick C. Wentz, Katherine M. Wentz, and Christopher L. Wentz; and three great grandchildren, Taylor, Mackenzie, and Hailey Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with the Reverend David Pattee of the Kent United Church of Christ officiating and Reverend Heather Wicks assisting. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday.
