Columbiana November 23, 2005 -Elmer Harrold Detwiler, Jr., age 90, of 382 Firestone Avenue died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center.
He was born October 20, 1915 in Columbiana, son of Elmer and Elizabeth Hisey Detwiler and had lived in Columbiana for most of his life. He had lived in Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Youngstown for short periods.
Mr. Detwiler was co-owner of James and Weaver Office Furniture and then was National Sales Manager for General Fireproofing.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; the Allen Masonic Lodge, #276 F&AM; the Cleveland Shrine Club; the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion at Columbiana. Mr. Detwiler served as Elder & Trustee of the church; was Past President of the Columbiana Rotary Club and the Columbiana Board of Education.
He served with the Army's 31st infantry, 7th Division in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WW II.
His wife, Marynetta Moore whom he married December 27, 1937, preceded him in death November 1, 2001.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Carolyn) McManus of Augusta, GA, and Mrs. Stephen (Elizabeth) Pettit of Wilton, CT; a son, David W. (Debbie) Detwiler of Columbiana; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Detwiler and Catherine Hayes and two brothers, Curtis Detwiler and Theodore Detwiler, who was killed during WW II
Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert McCreight officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbiana Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. The Honor Guard of the Benjamin Firestone Post will render military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements are by the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home.
