Columbiana January 23, 2004 - Ellen Elizabeth Westlake, age 46, of 406 Fairfield Avenue died at 5:55 p.m. Friday in the Mahoning Valley Hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks.
She was born March 25, 1957 in Washington, PA, daughter of William Paley and Mary Grace Lundy Thompson.
Mrs. Westlake had lived in Columbiana for eleven years coming from Lisbon.
She graduated from David Anderson High School in 1975, where she had perfect attendance. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work form Kent State University in 1979.
She had been a secretary for Shepard's Heart Foundation for five years.
Mrs. Westlake was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana and had taught Catechism at St. George Catholic Church in Lisbon. She was a volunteer for Lifeline, a volunteer in the office of St. Jude, was a member of the Outreach Ministry and of "Small Christian Community" at St. Jude.
Mrs. Westlake wrote short stories and poems. Her book, "The Answer to Everything" was recently published under her pen name, Ellen Thompson. She collected Mugs, Lighthouses and music boxes.
Beside her husband, David Scott Westlake whom she married May 16, 1992; she is survived by her mother of North Lima; two sisters, Mrs. Phil (LaJeanne) Lee of Marietta, GA and Mrs. Jeffrey (Patty) Richetto of Tuscaloosa, AL; a brother, William Bruce Thompson of Brevard, SC.
Rev. Thomas Ziegler will celebrate a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Jude Catholic Church. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Outreach Ministry.
