Eleanor R. Whitacre

Leetonia - October 27, 2008 - Eleanor R. Whitacre, 85, of 783 Columbia Street, died at 4:05 p.m. Monday at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mrs. Whitacre was born November 10, 1922 in Leetonia, a daughter of William R. and Olive Nichols Anglemyer and had lived in this area all of her life.

She was a beautician for several years and also was a clerk at the former Hansell's in Leetonia. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leetonia. Eleanor was a wonderful mother and grandmother and especially enjoyed decorating her home for the holiday times with her family.

Her husband, Chester F. Whitacre, whom she married September 5, 1942 died June 16, 2008.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Smith of Gibsonburg, OH and Mrs. Robert (Christine) Steele of Cortland; four grandchildren, Heather, Jason, David and Joshua; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leetonia with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Material tributes may be made to either the Organ Fund at St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Leetonia-Washingtonville Alumni Scholarship Fund.
