Columbiana, OH - Edwin Howard "Lefty" Hein, 99, died at 11:38 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Salem Community Hospital.
Mr. Hein was born March 8, 1912 in Cleveland, a son of the late Henry and Adeline Pudimat Hein. He was an inspector for 17 years for the former Lisbon Spring and Wire, retiring in 1971.
Lefty was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the OSI in Leetonia. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was an avid baseball fan and played semi-pro for "Cleveland Wire & Spring" team. He also loved bowling and golf and golfed for the Columbiana Buick Olds League.
He is survived by his wife, the former, Mary Louise Lawrence, whom he married October 15, 1938; his daughter-in-law, DeeDee (Thom) Thomas of Leetonia; and two grandchildren, Melinda (Jason) Plonski and Michael Hein.
He was preceded in death by his son, James R. Hein, three sisters, Emma Schneider, Betty Bossman and Alberta Thresher; and three brothers, William, Henry and Emil Hein.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11 am Saturday at the funeral home.
