Edwin J. Conkle

Columbiana-July 14, 2010-Edwin J. Conkle, 87, of 44925 Crestview Rd., died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at his home.

Mr. Conkle was born October 6, 1922 in Clarkson, a son of Carl R. and Anna Mae Low Conkle and had lived in this area all of his life.

Edwin was a truck driver for Herriott Trucking in East Palestine for many years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Christian Church in Rogers. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was a life member of the York Drexler Post #5532 VFW in Washingtonville.

His wife, the former Julia Warrick, whom he married February 21, 1942, died December 20, 2007.

He is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Robert) Whitmore of New Waterford, Gloria (John) Simon of Johnstown and Sue Sayers of Rogers; six grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Conkle and Mable Reeder Baldwin, a brother, Elmer Conkle and a great grandson, Austin Sayers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home with Reverend Don Monaco of Grace Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens where military honors will be accorded. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
