Salem - July 4, 2007 - Edwin E. Altomare, 86, of 12100 West Pine Lake Road, died at 12:55 A.M. Wednesday at the Holander House.
Mr. Altomare was born September 20, 1920 in Leetonia, a son of James V. and Mary Cerrone Altomare and had lived in this area all of his life. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea and was awarded the bronze star. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Salem.
He had owned and operated the Lee Win Golf Club in Salem for several years, retiring in 1980. Prior to that he had owned the J. & E. Record Shop in Columbiana.
His wife, the former Julia L. McCown, whom he married May 8, 1953 died November 28, 1993.
He is survived by a stepson, Jerry Allison of Salem; and two brothers, his twin, Edward Altomare of Columbiana and James Altomare of St. Petersburg, FL.
Two sisters, Betty Mayernick and Helen Altomare and a brother, Alfred Altomare are also deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with the Reverend Mac Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery where the honor guard from the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion will accord military honors.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
