Edward P. Mackall, 92, of 50462 Front Street, Negley, Ohio passed away after a brief illness October 13, 2010 at Salem Community Hospital.
Mr. Mackall was born November 11, 1917 in Negley, a son of Harry and Parmelia Brittain Mackall and had lived in Negley all of his life.
He had been employed at several area coal companies, where he was an equipment operator. He was a dedicated worker. He retired in 1986 from East Fairfield Coal Company in North Lima. His hobby was bird watching.
In 1933, he enrolled twice in the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp, where he was an assistant leader to the men in his barracks at a work camp in California.
He enlisted in the Army in War World II, and served in France and Germany where he provided aid to the wounded in military hospitals.
Mr. Mackall is survived by five daughters, Ms. Bonnie Maynard of Negley, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Guy of Texas, Mrs. Larry (Patricia) Stollenwerk Sr. of East Liverpool, Ms. Agnes Davidson of Negley, and Ms. Robin Parker of Salem; a son, Mr. Allen (Sandy) Mackall of Negley; two sisters, Ms. Ethel Rush of Virginia, and Ms. Dorothy Dickey of Columbiana; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Crowl) Mackall; two sisters, Evelyn Holzer and Ida Mackall; seven brothers, Raymond, Gilbert, Kenneth, Wayne, Samuel, Donald, and John (Jack); and a grandson, Shawn Mackall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with the Reverend Dennis Devorick officiating. Burial will follow in East Carmel Cemetery, Rogers.
Calling hours will be held at 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Negley United Methodist Church.
