Poland-Earl M. Hosack, 85, of Poland, died Monday, December 16, 2013, afternoon at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown following a brief illness.

Mr. Hosack was born February 20, 1928 in Patterson Heights, PA, a son of Thomas and Janet Spear Hosack and had lived in this area most of his life.

Earl was involved with operations and dispatching for various trucking companies in the area, including Herriott Trucking, Gateway, Eastern Ohio Freight Line and Case Trucking for 43 years. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ, North Lima and the East Palestine Lodge #417 F&AM. He served in the US Army.

His wife, the former Shirley V. Faloon, whom he married September 2, 1951, died December 10, 2012.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, CAPT, N.C., USN.Ret. James and Carrie Hosack of Warren; two grandchildren, James "J.T." Hosack, Jr. of Richmond, VA and ENS Brennan T. Hosack, USN currently serving in Bahrain; and a brother-in-law, Richard (Jill) Faloon of Napa, CA.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, two infant girls and a young boy, as well as Helen Schott, Genevieve Marlin, Ivan Gentry, Robert, Vernon, William, Warren, James, Karl, Everett and Thomas Hosack.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Reverend Jerry Kruse officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the East Palestine Combined Honor Guard. Friends may call from 12:00-1:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
