Dwight W. Shafer

East Palestine, OH-December 23, 2005-Dwight W. Shafer, age 79, of 480 N. Liberty Street died at 9:15 p.m. Friday at Essex I of Salem.

Mr. Shafer was born February 18, 1926 in East Palestine, a son of Steven and Margaret Purdue Shafer and had lived in this area since 1988 coming from Lorain, OH.

He was a corrections officer for the Grafton State Farm for 23 years retiring in 1988. He also served in the Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, the former Wanda B. Wood, whom he married September 25, 1954; his daughter, Deborah Shafer of Elyria; a sister, Thelma Kaltenbaugh of Boardman; one grandson, Justin P. Rice; and one great grandson, Justin Rice.

A sister, Nola Flickinger and three borthers, Lemoin, Wilbert and Frederick Shafer preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005 at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Kenneth Rambo of the New Waterford United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends may gather from 11am-1pm Friday at the funeral home.
