Doris L Simmonds

Columbiana - Doris L. Simmonds, 82, formerly of Columbiana and East Palestine, died at 9:16 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Medical Center of McKinney, McKinney, Texas.

Mrs. Simmonds was born September 14, 1929 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late Glenn and Letha Hamilton Huston and had resided in Texas the past four months, coming from Columbiana. Prior to that, she had resided in East Palestine for many years.

She taught piano and organ lessons for many years and had also been a cosmetologist at the former Jon-Elle Beauty Shop in East Palestine. She was a former member of the former Covenant Presbyterian Church and also the First Presbyterian Church of East Palestine where played organ and piano for many weddings and funerals.

Her husband, Frederick H. Simmonds, whom she married May 6, 1969 died April 21, 1999.

She is survived by a sister, Eileen Gillespie of California; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, June M. Vargo.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Salem Memorial Cemetery, Waterford Road, with Pastor Philip Bartholomew officiating. There are no calling hours.
