Columbiana- Doris Mae Powers of Columbiana, passed away from this world on Friday, July 28, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Boardman, after spending 93 years providing her utmost love to her family and members of the community.

She was born Doris Mae Ward on May 14, 1924 in East Palestine to the late Aurora Thorpe Ward and Albert P. Ward.

Doris married Robert B. Powers on June 28, 1947. He died April 21, 2002. She was active in various organizations within her community. She was a past member and Worthy Matron of the Columbiana Chapter of Order of Eastern Stars, a former member and Past President of the Columbiana Garden Club, a past president of the former Women's Association of the Salem Golf Club, a member of the Friends of the Columbiana Library, a member of the Friends of the Women's Club, and the Columbiana American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on several committees within the church. She served on the Board of Trustees of the Columbiana & Fairfield Historical Society for six years, serving as secretary for five years. Her hobbies were reading, playing bridge, and golfing with family and many wonderful friends.

Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She attended Kent State University, graduating from Youngstown State University. She taught business courses, mostly to juniors at Salem High School, and at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Members of her family who are deceased are her parents, Albert and Aurora Ward, a brother, Lester R. Ward, and her beloved husband, Bob Powers.

She leaves four children, Valerie (Michael) Mayo of Colonial Beach, VA., Jim (Adele) Powers of Rehoboth, DE., Roberta (Jim deceased) Kimelton of Peoria, AZ., and Judith (Rodney) Long of Charlotte, NC.; her sister, Helen Morris of Boardman; four grandchildren Stephen Powers, Dana (Jeremy) Kamradt, Robert (Kendall) Harrison, and Valerie Harrison, and three great grandchildren, Zachary Powers, Cody Powers, and Delaney Kamradt.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joshua Conley officiating.

Burial will be at the Columbiana Cemetery.

The family asked that memorial tributes be given to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana, Ohio
