Salem, OH – Donald William Smith, 78, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at his home.
He was born March 14, 1937 in Leetonia, a son of the late George A. and Corinne B. Prettyman Smith.
Donald was a 1955 graduate of Leetonia High School. He married his wife, the former, Barbara A. Grove on February 3, 1957 and moved to Alliance for five years. Upon returning to the area he resided on Tower Road in Salem for five years and finally moved to Butler Grange Road to the farm that he loved so much.
Don was a member of the First Friends Church, Salem.
He had worked at Alliance Manufacturing and Morgan Engineering where he received his license for Machine Trades. He had also been employed with E.W. Bliss Company of Salem, Eljer's of Salem and lastly with Butech of Salem retiring in 2004. In his spare time Don enjoyed wood working.
Besides his wife, Barbara Smith, he is survived by two daughters, Vickie Smith Mason of Niles and Julie (Mark) Winn of Salem; a son, Mark (Tammy) Smith of Salem; two brothers, Paul (Margaret) Smith and Bernard (JoAnn) Smith all of Leetonia; seven grandchildren, Angie and Adam Low, Steve (Stacey) Smith and Scott (Fanny) Smith, Katherine (Adam) Niederhiser, and Emily and Lindsay Winn; and six great grandchildren, Alessandro, Xander, Mark, Lorenzo, Wyatt and Bella.
A brother, Dale Smith preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the First Friends Church, Salem with Pastor Pete Fowler officiating.
Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Friends Church Building Fund.
