East Palestine - September 16, 2008 - Dewey W. Harman, 85, formerly of Brushville Road, East Palestine, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, Columbiana.
Mr. Harman was born July 28, 1923 in Columbiana, Ohio, a son of Adin and Zora Caldwell Harman and had lived in this area all of his life.
He had been employed as a machinist at NRM in Columbiana for 35 years and was also a horse trainer for many years. During WW II, he served as a member of the Marine Air Group 53 and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 531. The 531 flew night missions in the Pacific islands. His unit was awarded five Bronze Stars for these missions. He attended the New Waterford United Presbyterian Church and was a member of East Palestine Lodge #417 F. & A.M.
His wife, the former, Shirley E. Rupert, whom he married on December 29, 1950 died March 23, 1980.
He is survived by two sons; Rick (Joan) Harman of Columbiana and David (Brenda) Harman of Hillsboro, WV; three grandchildren; Scott (Lacie) Harman, Chris Harman, and Shannan (Kirk) Tucker; and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Luke Tucker.
Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the New Waterford United Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jan Douglass officiating.
Friends may call at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008. East Palestine Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 12:45 P.M. Sunday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Waterford United Presbyterian Church.
