Derek Lee O'Connell

New Springfield- Derek Lee O’Connell, age 14, of New Springfield, went home to be with his Lord, on Monday, August 24, 2015, at Akron Children's Hospital.

Derek was born, January 11, 2001, in Warren, OH, a son of Roger D. and Deborah L. Ridzon O'Connell.

He was a member of New Springfield Church of God and loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Avengers and roller coasters. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his mother and father of New Springfield; three sisters, Laura O'Connell of Chesterfield, VA, Carrie (Russell) Woods of Powhatan, VA, and April (Adam) Hoggood of Midlothian, VA; his aunts and uncles, Leonard (Cindy) Ridzon, Jr. and Robert (Dorothy) Ridzon all of New Waterford, Lori and Wayne O’Connell of Darlington, PA, William (Bonnie) O’Connell of Chambersburg, PA, Robert (Margie) O’Connell of The Villages, FL, and Gayle (Mike) Edwards of Midlothian, VA; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Derek was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Barbara Ridzon, Sr.; paternal grandparents, James and Kathleen O’Connell; and an uncle, Ralph O’Connell.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the New Springfield Church of God with Mr. Shaun Sommers officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon prior to the services on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to be made to the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine to help offset funeral expenses.
