Washingtonville - David L. Smith, age 79, of Washingtonville, died on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.
He was born on November 9, 1946, in Salem, a son of the late William and Elizabeth McFee Smith.
David was a 1965 graduate of Leetonia High School and had worked as a machine repairman for GM Lordstown for 50 years, retiring in 2016. He was a member of the UAW Local 1714 and had served on the Washingtonville Vol. Fire Dept. David enjoyed target shooting and had belonged to a skeet shooting club through his work. He liked fishing, working on his tractor and vacationing with his family at Disney World.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Baker Smith; three sons, William Smith of Cleveland, Shawn (Julie) Smith of Boardman, and Aaron Smith of Washingtonville; sister, Shari (William) Merdich of Leetonia; two brothers, Charles (Deborah) Smith of Salem, and Douglas (Judith) Smith of Columbiana. Also surviving are many grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Smith, and a sister, Janie Smith.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
Services will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.
David will be laid to rest at Oakdale Cemetery in Leetonia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David’s memory to the to Autism Society of Mahoning Valley, 241 W Federal St Suite 411, Youngstown, OH 44503.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
