Daren Zane Whitacre

Leetonia - Daren Zane Whitacre, 95, of Leetonia, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Vista Center, Lisbon.

Daren was born, June 27, 1922 a son of the late Terry B. and Jessie Huffnagle Whitacre.

He was a devoted member of the Lake Mount Church of Christ, New Waterford, where he served as a trustee. He worked many jobs throughout his life but most notably as a truck driver. He enjoyed being a ham radio operator, with his call number WB8ZQU and traveling the country with his late wife Dorothy, even making it as far as the state of Washington.

Daren was preceded in death on October 25, 2017 by his wife, Dorothy Lucille Whitacre, whom he married September 3, 1982.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen (Glenn) Burlingame of Lisbon; two step daughters, Nancy (Robert) Ridgley of New Waterford and Diane (Tom) Tray of Beaver, PA; three step sons, Guy (Rhonda) Mercer of Butler, PA, Dan (Pam) Mercer of New Waterford and Tim Mercer of Thailand. He is also survived by two grandchildren, thirteen step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nineteen step great grandchildren and one step great great grandson.

Daren was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Westover and Kathryn Adams, and one brother, Conrad Whitacre.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday January 8, 2018 at Lake Mount Church of Christ, New Waterford, with Mr. Tim Postle, Evangelist and Mr. Jason Cole, Evangelist.

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the church.

Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens.
