Listen to Obituary

Chillicothe - Daniel Wayne Seachrist, 78, of Chillicothe, formerly of Youngstown, died Sunday evening, June 21, 2026, at Convington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Palestine.

Dan was born on September 29, 1947, in Salem, the son of the late Glen W. and Eloise Rapp Seachrist. Growing up in New Waterford, he graduated from Crestview High School in 1965. He was a graduate of Youngstown State University, majoring in religion, psychology, and philosophy and received his M.Ed. from Kent State University.

A licensed clinical psychologist, Dan practiced for over fifty years. He began his career at the Veterans Bureau of Rehabilitation in Cleveland and later joined Coleman Professional Services in Kent. He retired as Chief Clinical Psychologist at the Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe. Dan also maintained a private practice throughout his career and was working with clients as recently as two months before his passing.

He was baptized and confirmed in the former Grace United Church of Christ in Columbiana where he was an active member of the youth group throughout high school. Most recently he attended St. Peter Catholic Church in Chillicothe, where his beloved wife was an active member. He was a proud member of the Ohio Psychological Association (OPA) headquartered in Columbus.

Dan enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He especially enjoyed the natural beauty of Mosquito Lake, Cook Forest, and Salt Fork State Parks. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and spent the summer of 1963 at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He attained Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout, a prestigious milestone of leadership and service achieved by only 4 percent of Scouts. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow; OA members are defined by “service to others, commitment to personal growth, and self-driven initiative to make a difference in their community.”

His wife, Carol L. Seachrist (née Snyder), whom he married May 16, 1985, preceded him in death scarcely ten weeks ago on April 9, 2026.

In addition to his parents, Glen and Eloise Seachrist, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charlie Wentz.

He is survived by his children, Callie L. Burgess (Jonathan) and Keith P. Jones Jr.; his seven cherished grandchildren—Olivia, Echo, Bella, Cora, Taylor, Mackenzie, and Hailey; and his sister, Dr. Denise A. Seachrist (Lee Lipp).

Per Dan’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place with Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, handling the arrangements.
