Leetonia- Daniel James DiPanfilo, Sr., age 94 of Leetonia, died on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Essex III in Salem.
He was born on April 5, 1923 in Leetonia, a son of the late Giuseppe "Joseph" and Anna Domenica Fiucci DiPanfilo.
Daniel was the owner of several local business including Salem Brass and Aluminum Foundry. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia. He served in the United States Army Air Corps 8th Airforce during WWII and was stationed in Norwich, England. He was a Lifetime Member of the VFW, Washingtonville, and a past member of the OSI and American Legion, Leetonia. He was also a past member of the Leetonia Sportsman Club. Daniel enjoyed sports, computers, photography, dancing, bowling, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Alexandria "Alice" Karasiewsky DiPanfilo, whom he married on June 12, 1948; six sons, Daniel (Linda E.) DiPanfilo, Jr. of Catonsville, MD., Lawrence (Rebecca) DiPanfilo of Marietta, GA., Gerald DiPanfilo of Warren, Edward DiPanfilo of Cranberry Twp., PA., Kenneth (Lori) DiPanfilo of Leetonia, and Michael DiPanfilo of Westminster, MD.; a sister, Mary Altomare of San Diego, CA., and a brother, Joseph DiPanfilo of Columbiana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Daniel was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Shultz.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Leetonia with Father Robert Edwards officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Leetonia where military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion.
