Salem - March 5, 2011 - Clyde J. McCallister, 86, of Salem, formerly of Leetonia, died Saturday morning at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mr. McCallister was born November 6, 1924 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Clyde J. and Hazel Blankenship McCallister, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and also the Korean War. He has been employed at the former National Refractories, Columbiana for 28 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion, Leetonia. He loved to cook and was an avid New York Yankee fan.

His wife, the former Adelene Jewell Alvis, whom he married August 18, 1947 died July 23, 1986.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James (Dreama Sue) Entrikin of Leetonia; four sons, Edward Dane (Kathy) McCallister of Salem, Jeffrey (Sue) McCallister of Poland, Doug (Elizabeth) McCallister of New Waterford, and, Patrick (Nancy) McCallister of Salem; two sisters, Barbara Hoyle of Salem and Elaine Bryant of Cleveland; three brothers, Willard McCallister of Salem, Delbert McCallister of Salem, and Richard McCallister of Liberty; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Roger McCallister, and five brothers, Donald McCallister, Elvin McCallister, James McCallister, Robert McCallister, and Paul McCallister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia with the Reverend Stanley Grabill officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery where the Honor Guard from the Salem Amvets and VFW will accord military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Monday.
