Leetonia - June 14, 2008 - Clyde R. "Butch" Carey, 71, of 24 Washington Street, died Saturday morning at his home.

Mr. Carey was born November 16, 1936 in Leetonia, a son of the late William H. and Blanche M. Garrison Carey and had lived in this area most of his life. He served in the US Navy for 22 years during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was commended for outstanding performance of duty while serving as main propulsion advisor with the mobile training team for the Venezuelan Navy in 1973. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed as a maintenance man for the former National Refractories for 10 years.

He was a member of Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion, York Drexler Post #5532 VFW of Washingtonville and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1496 of Leetonia. He is survived by his wife, the former Kane "Susie" Takahashi whom he married August 29, 1967; a son, Michael (Gwendolyn Jones) Carey of Youngstown; three sisters, Helen Ruth Carey of Youngstown, Maxine Carey Bryant of Jacksonville, FL, and Patricia Ford of Englewood, CA; a brother, Richard Carey of Englewood, CA; three step grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Salem Amvets-VFW Honor Guard.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.
