Leetonia- Clarence "Ray" McFarland Sr., age 83, of Leetonia, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his home.

He was born on July 8, 1934 in Beaver Falls, PA., a son of the late Richard Sr. and the late Thelma Newton McFarland.

Ray was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War and had worked as the cemetery sexton for Oakdale Cemetery in Leetonia for many years. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating. Ray also took great joy in treating his grandchildren and neighbor children to ice cream. He will best be remembered as a man who enjoyed spending time with his family and his close neighbors, the Kleinknecht's and the Valentine's.

His wife, Louise "Midge" Miller McFarland, whom he married on November 30, 1954, preceded him in death on December 9, 2006.

He is survived by four daughters, Thelma (David) Foreman of Salem, Ella (Ronald) Shasteen of Lisbon, Diana Good of Lisbon, and Kim Swan of Salem; his son, Clarence "Jake" McFarland Jr. of Salem, and a sister, Shirley Adams of Salem. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Gower, and Edna Taylor; three brothers, Richard McFarland Jr., Robert McFarland, and Marvin McFarland. Also preceding him in death was a great granddaughter, Alexis Marie Foreman.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.

Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia, where the Salem Honor Guard will render military honors.
