Columbiana December 14, 2006 - Chester Lee Urbschat, age 82, of 228 Court Street died at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Salem Community Hospital. Chet was born October 5, 1924 in Germantown, son of William F. and Editha Boyer Urbschat. He had lived in Columbiana for 53 years coming from Dayton and Youngstown. He was a teacher of social studies, business and government for Crestview Local Schools for 20 years. He started his career at the National Cash Register Company in Dayton and Youngtown. He received a BA in Business Administration from Miami University of Ohio and a BS in Education from Kent State University. He served in the Navy as a radio signalman in World War II. He was an expert gardener and avid reader. He and his family spent a number of summers camping across the country. Surviving is his beloved wife, the former Winifred Joyce Esterly whom he married June 24, 1951; three daughters, Teresa Zimmerman and her husband, Bill of Vancouver, WA, Linda Muzzo of Bexley and Ruth Ann Phillips and her husband, Alan of Kent; two sons, Bruce and his wife, Nancy Urbschat of Springfield, MA and William Urbschat at home; a sister, Mrs. Lois Mott of Dayton; a brother, Gerald and his wife, Karen Urbschat of Ft. Myers Beach, FL and eight grandchildren: Sara and Amy Zimmerman, Lauren and Leigh Urbschat, Joey Muzzo, and Tessa, Larry and Lee Phillips. A sister Jean Semler and a brother Richard Urbschat preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. in the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Columbiana Cemetery. The Urbschat family requests memorial contributions are made to the Columbiana Public Library, as Chet served many years on the library board.
