East Palestine-Charlotte Sutherin, age 92, of East Palestine, died on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana.
She was born on December 22, 1923, in New Springfield, a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Amelia Shaw Wellendorf.
Charlotte was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WWII and had worked as a beautician owning and operating Charlotte’s Beauty Shop for 33 years. She was an active member of the First Church of Christ, East Palestine, where she sang in the choir, served as Sunday school secretary and belonged to the Friendship Class. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, East Palestine, Garden Club, BPW-AWA, Eureka Rebekah Lodge and AARP-East Palestine. Charlotte also helped with Meals on Wheels and the Board of Elections. In later years, she enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren.
Her husband of 65 years, Loren Daniel Sutherin, whom she married on February 18, 1948, preceded her in death on May 13, 2013.
She is survived by three sons, Merrill (Fannie Sills) Sutherin of Chicago, IL, Daniel (Patricia) Sutherin of New Waterford and Mark (Darlene) Sutherin of Guilford Lake; a sister, Margaret Forney of Columbiana; twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by three brothers, Omer, Clarence and Ralph Wellendorf and by three sisters, Dora Clay, Florence Pittman and Harriet Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 18, 2016, at the First Church of Christ of East Palestine with her pastor, Mr. Robert Helbeck officiating.
Friends may call from 6-8 pm Sunday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine and from 10-11 am Monday at the church. Burial will follow in East Carmel Cemetery.
Contributions in memory of Charlotte may be made to the church memorial fund or Hospice of the Valley.
