Columbiana-Charles W. "Bill" Furney, age 93 of Columbiana, died at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Parkside Health Care Center, Columbiana.

He was born September 10, 1920 in Youngstown, the only child of George and Mary Linhart Furney.

Bill was a veteran of the United State Army Air Force, having served during WWII and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana.

He graduated from The University of Wisconsin School of Banking in 1953. He then worked as a banker for 40 years, retiring in 1981 from National City Bank in Columbiana where he had been president for the last fourteen years of his career.

Bill was past president of the Columbiana County AAA, Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis. He also served as trustee for the Northern Columbiana County Hospital Association, was a member of the American Legion and VFW and had been a Mason for 70 years, belonging to the Allen Lodge #276 F & AM.

Bill was an avid sportsman and enjoyed gardening, but mostly, he enjoyed spending his time traveling with his beloved wife, Jewel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel L. Chamberlain Furney on September 3, 2013.

He is survived by two nephews, Lee and Keith Chamberlain; three nieces, Dawn Brown, Marcy Chidester and Christine Vogel; and 16 great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 10AM - 11AM at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

Services will be held on Saturday at 11AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Carolyn Griffeth officiating.

Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery.
