East Palestine-January 29, 2007-Charles B. "Barney" McGuckin, age 86, of 514 N. Market Street, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mr. McGuckin was born March 25, 1920 in Cannelton, PA a son of Charles H. and Mary Berresford McGuckin and had lived in this area all of his life.

Barney was a time keeper for the former Babcock and Wilcox Company in Beaver Falls, PA for 15 years retiring in 1981. He had also worked for National Rubber Manufacturing in Columbiana.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he had served on Parish Council. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he had served as chairman of the "Measure Up Campaign". He served in the US Army during World War II, was a member and Past Commander of the George F. McBane Post #31 American Legion and a member of the Edward L. McGuckin Post #4579 VFW. Barney was also a volunteer for the Salvation Army and East Palestine Social Concerns.

He is survived by his wife, the former Virginia M. Thorpe, whom he married November 7, 1942; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Capan of Port Clinton, Mrs. Donald (Gail) Lambright of Darlington, PA and Mrs. Daniel (Mary) Ward of New Springfield; two sons, Michael (Alice) McGuckin of Beaver, PA and Todd McGuckin and his fiancAC.e, Victoria Davis of East Palestine; a sister, Mrs. William (Ann) Paes of East Palestine; ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace McGuckin and Betty Wudske and two brothers, James and Leonard McGuckin and a grandson, Aaron McGuckin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Reverend Dan Cipar officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery where the combined group from the American Legion and VFW will accord military honors.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home, East Palestine.
