Columbiana April 23, 2006 -Charles O. Gilchrist, age 87, of 1229 Columbiana Lisbon Road died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the Essex of Salem.

He was born May 8, 1918 in MeKeesport PA, son of Oliver Charles and Mary C. Colbert Gilchrist.

Mr. Gilchrist had lived in Columbiana since 1964, coming from McKeesport-Canonsburg PA area.

He had attended the Kiski Prep School at Saltzburg PA and West Liberty University at Wheeling, WV.

Charles was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Columbiana.

He served with the 338th Field Artillery Battalion in the Army during WW II and later was a member of the Benjamin Firestone Post #290, American Legion at Columbiana and the York Drexler Post #5532 Veterans of Foreign Wars at Washingtonville and the International Lithographers

He had been a Metal Lithographer at Acme Nameplate at Great Falls, SC and then at the former Ballanoff Company at Columbiana for 48 years.

Surviving is his wife, Caroline D. Eisert whom he married September 19, 1970; a daughter, Mrs. William (Sharon Jean) Snedeker of 84, PA; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mark (Joyce M.) Evans of Columbiana; three sons, Charles L. Gilchrist and David T. Gilchrist, both of Peters Township, PA; a step son, Allen W. Ammons of Carrolton, GA; a brother, James W. Gilchrist of Destrehan, LA; two grandsons and five step grandchildren.

Two sisters, Olive N. Sonerson and Edythe C. Russell preceded him in death;

A memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church with the Rev. W. David H. Conrad officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior at the church.

Burial will be in the Columbiana Cemetery.

Arrangements by Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home.

The Honor Guard of the Benjamin Firestone Post will render military honors.
