Columbiana-May 2, 2009-Charles L. "Chuck" Cope, 84, of 42137 SR 14, died at 12:54 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Community Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Cope was born August 12, 1924 in Fairfield Township, Columbiana County, OH, a son of the late Roy and Helen Newhouse Cope and had lived in this area all of his life. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was the owner and operator of the Miller Furniture in Columbiana for 39 years.

He was a member of Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion of Columbiana and York Drexler Post #5532 of Washingtonville.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carolyn A. Day, whom he married September 21, 1979; two daughters, Patricia A. (Terry) Poulton and Tami (Brian W.) Pearl, Sr., both of Columbiana; two sons, C. Tucker (Linda) Cope of Columbiana and John W. (Kathy) Cope of Tampa, FL; a step daughter, Parker (Austin) Beiling of Columbiana; a step son, James E. (Christina) Parker of Boyton Beach, FL; a sister, Dorthy Mossor of Columbiana; three brothers, James (Marsha) Cope of Paris, OH, Donald (Janet) Cope of Loveland, CO, and Howard (Harva) Cope of Columbiana; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Hall Cope and a daughter, Linda Conkle.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with James Cope officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery where the American Legion Honor Guard will accord military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
