Leetonia- Carl "Ezzy" Deffenbaugh, age 86, of Leetonia, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Essex of Salem.

He was born on August 10, 1931 in Mineral Ridge, a son of the late Orrin and Anna Schaeffer Deffenbaugh.

Ezzy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Washingtonville and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was both a member and Past Master of Leetonia Lodge #401 F. & A.M. and a former member and Past Worthy Patron of the former Leetonia Chapter #253 Order of the Eastern Star. Ezzy was currently a member of the Salem Chapter #334 Order of the Eastern Star, Fort Steuben York Rite, Salem Commandery #42, and Our Savior Tabernacle #XXXIII Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests. He was also a member of the New Lisbon Chapter #92 of the Royal Arch Masons, Omega Council #44 Royal and Select Masters, the Aut-Mori Grotto Shrine, and was a Knight of the York Cross of Honor. Ezzy was a life member of York Drexler Post #5532 VFW, and the Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion. He worked as a machinist for NRM, served as a Salem Twp. Trustee for several years, and was also a member for many years of the Leetonia Vol. Fire Dept.

His wife, Ruth Stouffer Deffenbaugh, whom he married on June 3, 1956, preceded him in death on March 31, 2007.

He is survived by three daughters, Anna (Rick) Bell of Leetonia, Christy (Fred) Griffin of Madison and Nancy (Noel) MacKenzie of Salem; a brother, David Deffenbaugh of Leetonia; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Ezzy was preceded in death by a son, Carl (Sandy) Deffenbaugh Jr.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia. Masonic Services will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. by the Leetonia Lodge #401 F. & A.M. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by the Salem Honor Guard and burial will be at the Franklin Square Cemetery.
