East Palestine, OH-August 10, 2009-Beverly Pancake Hall, 75 of 540 West Martin Street died at 5:05 a.m. Monday at Hospice House in Poland.
Beverly was born, June 3, 1934, in East Palestine, the only child of Charles and Marion Ealy Pancake.
Beverly attended East Palestine Schools and was pleased to receive numerous awards for scholarships and music through her school years. She graduated as salutatorian of her class and went on to Ohio Wesleyan University and later Youngstown State University. She was honored to be included in a social club of class members called by the unlikely name of the Purple Monster Club. Two members predeceased her from this group, Betty Treece and Janice Herrington. Others remain in close touch.
Beverly had to leave college life early to go to work. She worked at the former First National Bank for twenty-seven years, very briefly for Nulf Trucking and as a caseworker for Columbiana County Food Stamp Program, eight years for Tuscarora Plastics and seventeen years in the office at Threshold Residential Services, Inc.
During the working years, music continued to be important in Beverly's life. She played in the class rooms at her church, Centenary United Methodist and gave piano lessons at her home. She served as organist for a short time at the New Waterford Presbyterian church, followed by simultaneously serving twenty seven years as a organist at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and twenty six years at Emmanuel United Methodist Church; which included playing for hundreds of weddings and funerals. She always loved playing for children and was pleased to play for East Palestine grade school concerts, high school competitions and Y.S.U. juries and student concerts. She especially enjoyed working with Bible school, spending time with her family, music, gardening and sewing.
Beverly is survived by two sons, Bruce (Debra) and Charles (FiancAC., Bonnie Unger) Hall both of East Palestine; three grandchildren, Bobbi Hall of Poland, Shawn Hall of East Palestine, and Cathi (Nate) Brooks of Edinburg, PA; and four great grandchildren, Hayley and Hannah Hall, Hunter Brooks, and a great granddaughter born on Sunday.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Mark McTrustry officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
If friends desire, memorial may be directed to the East Palestine Library.
