East Palestine-January 29, 2008-Betty L. Knight, 89, formerly of 66 S. Washington Street, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Caprice Health Care Center, North Lima.

Mrs. Knight was born October 5, 1918 in East Palestine, a daughter of Delmer and Elizabeth Widowfield Freed and had lived in this area all of her life.

She was a homemaker and member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she was active in the Dorcas Class. She was a graduate of the East Palestine High School Class of 1936 and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Edward L. McGuckin Post #4579 VFW. Betty was active in the East Palestine TOPS. She loved camping, cooking and baking and many people enjoyed her crocheted crafts.

Her husband, James H. Knight, whom she married March 6, 1937 died January 17, 1984.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Kay (Lawrence) Gillooly of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sons, Larry J. (Joann) Knight and William R. (Judy) Knight both of East Palestine, Delmer R. (Julie) Knight of North Canton; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Wilson, a brother, Robert Freed and a great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home with Reverend Don W. Kraps officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
