Betty J. Elwonger

East Palestine – Betty Jane Elwonger, 94, of East Palestine, formerly of Columbiana, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the Covington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Elwonger was born October 28, 1921 in East Palestine, a daughter of the late August and Margaret Cooper Brueckman and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a graduate of East Palestine High School and along with her husband, owned and operated Columbiana Floral and Hi-View Greenhouse for many years.

She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, East Palestine. Betty was also a former member of the East Palestine Garden Club and the East Palestine Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Milton M. Elwonger, whom she married May 21, 1942; a son, Vernon (Phyllis) of Columbiana; a daughter, Margaret (Greg) Bradley of St. Augustine, FL; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Imran) Salahuddin, Christine (Tom) Jurjovec, Austin Elwonger, Payton Elwonger, Savannah Elwonger, and Cheyenne Elwonger; and four great grandchildren, Griffin, Audrey, Raina, and Mahir.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015, at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark McTrustry officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
