East Palestine-December 8, 2011-Betty J. Cooper, 86, formerly of Wood St., died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center where she had resided the past 4 years.

Mrs. Cooper was born March 24, 1925 in Darlington Township, PA, a daughter of Burt and Elizabeth Spooner Crowl and had lived in this area all of her life.

Betty was a homemaker and was an avid bowler, bowling in leagues for over 35 years. She was also a member of Joe Williams Post #131 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Leetonia, York Drexler Post #5532 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Washingtonville, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #467, East Palestine, Rebekah Lodge in Sebring, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Salem, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her husband, Harold "Bud" Cooper, whom she married November 7, 1942, died November 24, 1980.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Jean Murray and Bonnie Forney both of East Palestine, Beverly Huff of Columbiana and Babe Cooper-Jackson of St. Augustine, FL; four sons, Robert L. Cooper of Youngstown, Barry A. Cooper of East Palestine, Bernard Cooper of East Liverpool and William J. Cooper of Wampum, PA; a half sister Debbie Crowl of North Carolina; 23 grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Wolfgang, two sisters, June Young and Lucy Smith and three grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Van Dyke-Swaney-Rettig Funeral Home, East Palestine with Pastor Jan Winnale officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Material tributes in Betty's memory may be made to St. Mary's Activity Fund at 1899 Garfield Rd. Columbiana, OH 44408.
